NeSmith Chevrolet donates truck
for ReStore
NeSmith
Chevrolet in Claxton has donated a Chevrolet pickup truck to Habitat
for Humanity of Bulloch County, for use of the Habitat ReStore.
Demere
NeSmith presented the keys to the 2004 Silverado Friday, July 6,
to Warren “Spike” Jones, Habitat for Humanity ReStore manager, and Doty
Dunn, incoming president of the board of directors.
“It’s more
than a pleasure,” said NeSmith. “Habitat is a great program and we’re
glad to be able to help.”
“We
appreciate this very much,” said Jones. “It is going to be an enormous
help to us.”
The
Silverado was one of a fleet of trucks used by the dealership to pick
up and deliver items for the business, explained NeSmith. “It has a lot
of miles, but it should do a great job for you.”
“This is
wonderful,” said Dunn. “This is so very generous.”
The truck
will be used by the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, to pick up donated
items for sale in the ReStore. The truck will replace one retired due
to mechanical problems a few months ago, and will allow ReStore
volunteers to pick up more donations each Saturday.
“Being
able to pick up donations is very important to us, and to our donors –
many of whom do not have a way to bring appliances or large items to
the store,” said Vicki Davis, executive director of the affiliate.
The
Habitat ReStore, at 37 E. Cherry, is the single biggest fundraising
activity for Habitat for Humanity of Bulloch County, accepting
donations of furniture, appliances, building materials and household
items, which are available for sale to the public.
“In just
over 10 years, the ReStore has brought in nearly $500,000 to Habitat,”
said Davis. “That money has been a key to allowing us to complete 30
homes here in Bulloch County. At the same time, it has given local
residents a good way to recycle good usable items, and a place to buy
necessities for their homes at reasonable prices.”
